EYFS Parents Information

A Message from the Principal:
Dear Parents and Carers,
We are very pleased to welcome you and your family to Hunnyhill Ormiston Academy and thank you for choosing us for your child’s education. We are delighted to confirm that your child will be joining our academy, and we are really looking forward to getting to know them and working closely with you over the coming years.
At Hunnyhill, your child will be supported throughout their learning journey, from Early Years through their primary education and beyond to Cowes Enterprise College, our Trust secondary school. As part of the Ormiston Academies Trust, we pride ourselves on offering a cradle‑to‑career approach, providing continuity, high expectations, and strong support at every stage.
Starting school is a very special milestone, and we understand how important it is that children – and families feel happy, confident, and well supported. We take great care to get to know each child as an individual and to build positive relationships with families from the very beginning.
To help you prepare for your child joining us, we would like to warmly invite you to an information session for parents and carers on Wednesday 10th June, from 5:00–6:00pm. This session will give you the chance to:
Meet key members of our team
Learn about our daily routines, expectations, and support systems
Receive important information about uniform, attendance, behaviour, and pastoral care
Find out more about the Early Years curriculum and how we support children to achieve a Good Level of Development (GLD)
Ask any questions and share any thoughts or concerns
*Please bring proof of your child’s identity (such as a birth certificate), as we are required to verify pupil information.
We will also explain how we support children both academically and emotionally, including how we track progress, encourage positive behaviour, and offer extra support where needed.
We value your knowledge of your child and would love the opportunity to hear from you. Short individual meetings (either at your home or in school) will be available so you can share anything you feel will help us support your child. Details on how to book these meetings will be shared during the session and through our communication system, Dojo.
You will soon receive an email with log in details inviting you to sign up to Dojo. Dojo is our communication app that we share updates and key information with families. Please check your email for this invite. If your child attends Hunnyhill Pre School, you will already have Dojo and do not need to sign up again.
Throughout May and June, teachers will also visit your child in their nursery or pre‑school setting.
Our Stay and Play sessions will begin in early July, allowing children to spend time in the academy, meet staff, and become familiar with their new environment. Additional information will be sent via Dojo.
At Hunnyhill, all pupils start their new academic year in the week beginning 20th July, for three days before the summer holidays. This helps children feel settled and excited, so they return in September feeling confident and ready to learn. We will send further details, including time slots, via Dojo.
We have also attached some useful information on starting school and potty training. Please remember that every child is different, and if you would like any advice or extra support, we are here to help – just get in touch.
We are very much looking forward to welcoming your child to Hunnyhill Ormiston Academy and working in partnership with you to help them thrive.
Warm regards,
Lisa Steedman
